Green Remodeling for Architects and Interior Designers
"green" building, also known as "sustainable" building is residential or commercial structure that was designed, built, renovated, operated or used in environmental and resource-effective manner.
As the owners became aware of the internal health problems, increasing energy costs and their impact on the environment Green remodeling is becoming more popular. Every indicator points to continued growth of Green Building and Remodeling in the market. It is not just a fad and a passing curiosity. She is here to stay and will eventually be the only way to build.
Green Remodeling goals are straight forward and the benefits are tangible. use environmentally safe products is one of the most important goals in a green project, but this is especially true in residential remodeling project.
Green Remodeling goals are straight forward and the benefits are tangible. use environmentally safe products is one of the most important goals in a green project, but this is especially true in residential remodeling project.
...improved energy efficiency and lower energy costs is another major goal of Green Remodeling, which emphasizes the use of energy efficient appliances and lighting, and the use of programmable thermostats and tank-less water heaters. U.S. Department of Energy estimates that 20 billion U.S. dollars less energy can be used each year if current buildings were green-improved.
Reduce the amount of construction debris from remodeling project is another important goal. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, construction waste accounts for 20% of waste in landfills, or about 136 million tons annually. Green Remodeling aims to reduce waste by recycling as much as possible from the construction site and use products made from recycled materials whenever possible.
In general, Green remodeling focuses on reducing operating costs by increasing system efficiency, reducing emissions of toxic materials and improving indoor air quality and environmentally safe building materials and environmentally friendly building practices. These aspects can greatly affect the value of the building and the overall health and productivity of its users.
differs from Green Remodeling Green Building. Although the principles that govern the Green Remodeling shared with other green design and construction projects, there are several aspects that are unique. The first noticeable difference is in the range of projects to make remodeling project. Since designing and building a new structure generally includes everything from the workplace to the assembly of door hardware, remodel generally involves only certain systems or room. While the majority of all new construction on the building is known, having been designed and built from scratch in remodeling, there are still the current situation, some of which are unknown, to deal with. need to stage sequenced projects around customer need for certain things to be completed before another is another rather unique aspect of remodeling, such as the fact that most work is custom in nature.
Green Remodeling is not just about product selection. It is as much about the process. Synergies are created when access is focused on the integration of the "whole-house" philosophy. Green remodeling requires the same professional coordination and integration at all levels, as does the new green building. Good design and construction are the foundation of every green project. And while you have a quality project that is not green, you can not have a green project that is not of high quality.
Since remodeler must be in accordance with the standards and apply techniques that enhance the sustainability of the project Green remodeling is more challenging than run-of-the-mill remodeling. That does not mean that every project must include Green Remodeling each system, a room or finish in the structure. Green remodeling can be accomplished in small, individual ways, choosing the elements that match the situation. Toxic paints and sealants may be removed and replaced with non-toxic, environmentally safe products to increase the quality of indoor air. Programmable thermostats and extra insulation, especially around the pipe, can be installed to reduce energy costs. Older, inefficient appliances can be replaced with more energy efficient models. Natural flooring materials or mats made of natural fibers and fabrics can be used instead of synthetic coverings to reduce out-poisoning with harmful gases. Lighting fixtures can be replaced with energy efficient, dimmable fixtures to reduce energy waste. Green remodeling can be as simple as buying locally-made products to reduce emissions caused by shipping products from other regions.
Green Remodeling is a major component of the overall push to "go green", and is subject to further studies not only remodeling contractors, but architects, interior designers and engineers as well.
